Helia's Shadow Part One (Starlight Age Series Book 1) by K.C. Neal

Helia's Shadow
Part One
(Starlight Age Series Book 1)
by
K.C. Neal

Nineteen years ago, aliens arrived on a dying Earth with advanced technology and the promise of ensuring human survival in exchange for a place to settle. They were hailed as the saviors of humans and Earth.

Today, 16-year-old Helia wants two things in life: to step out of her over-protective mother’s shadow and become an engineer, and to stop hiding her romance with alien boy Kalo. But the world definitely isn’t ready for a human-alien romance. And worse, the human-alien partnership is crumbling. Humans are being arrested without explanation. Some of them are never seen again.

When the alien leader imprisons her mother on a false charge, Helia discovers the aliens never intended to help humans at all. Now, she must join forces with alien rebels and convince the young rebel leader that humans aren't expendable. If she succeeds, humans have a chance at survival and she has a chance at love. If she fails, the dwindling human race dies out in slavery.

My Review
OHMYGOSH – this is killing me!! Where is part 2? I can’t possibly wait for it, I need it now!! This was completely intense! Earth has been destroyed and the aliens have come to save the humans that are left! Helia is one of those humans. She also happens to have a forbidden human-alien romance with Kalo, one of the Talons. Everything is going smoothing until the aliens begin showing their true intentions of enslaving the human race. Humans start being arrested for no reason, disappearing, or even dying. Something has to be done but the alien leader is very powerful. The only hope is for human rebels and alien rebels to work together but that seems pretty impossible since they refuse to trust each other. Helia and Kalo are definitely unique in their feelings toward each other. I love them both for trusting in each other and their love against all odds! Now I just need to know what happens next!!

Cassandra Vera never ever broke the rules.

Ever!

She’s also had a nonexistent social life since her best friend moved to Vegas. Armed with a new set of resolutions, the promise of a hot date, and her adoptive parents out of town, seventeen-year-old Cassandra agrees to a road trip, which is the perfect way to celebrate her birthday and ring in the New Year. After all, she’s headed to Vegas, the city where secrets are meant to stay hidden. Little does Cassandra know her past is buried there as well.

Cloaked in the shadows of the glitz and gaudy lights of Vegas lies a power struggle centuries old. One wrong step and Cassandra could destroy the delicate web of secrets. Now an enemy she never knew existed is after her, and the one boy who may be the missing piece to the puzzle — and her heart— is the one person she can’t afford to trust.

 My Review
Fascinating! This starts out fairly simple; Cassandra finally decides to break the rules with a road trip to Vegas for her birthday. But she finds a lot more than drinking and gambling waiting for her there. Her world gets completely flipped as she realizes she may be part of huge underground world centered in Vegas. She finds truths that she never wanted to know and unbelievable possibilities in her future. And to keep things complicated and frustrating, there’s a gorgeous bad-boy that she knows she shouldn't trust regardless of how persuasive he can be. I loved every exciting minute of this book! It’s such a unique twist of different paranormal and mythical worlds! I am absolutely addicted and anxiously waiting for more.

Wolf of Stone Blog Tour!!

Wolf of Stone
(The Gypsy Healer Series, Book 2)

by Quinn Loftis

Synopsis

Dalton Black, a Canis lupis full of guilt and anger, never expected to find his true mate. Perhaps already slipping into madness, he had resigned himself to the fact that he would walk the earth without the other half of his soul. He was convinced that his sins were enough to keep the Great Luna from giving him such a blessing. He knew it was probably better that way. His past was as dark as his name and after three centuries of running from it, the memories were finally catching up to him. But all of those resignations evaporated when he saw her broken and bloodied body lying on that alter. Though the man didn’t recognize her, the wolf did. Through battle and bloodshed he was able to save her from the evil that held her captive, but now he would need her to save him from himself.
Jewel Stone was wholly unaware of the ancient bloodlines of Gypsy Healers, mates to Canis lupis and protectors of the packs – much less that she carried that blood herself. But when a beautiful but deadly woman showed up in her home and ripped her from her realm, she knew her life would never be the same. Her mother, Gem, a fortune teller, had warned her that something was coming, that her life was about to change dramatically, but like everyone else, Jewel had dismissed her as a crazy person.
Jewel was the laughing stock of her school simply because Gem was her mother. And up until now, her life was one big disappointment after another. Instead of heeding her mother’s warning, she hid in her books, burying herself behind knowledge, both fact and fiction. She escaped into worlds created by others and filled her mind with facts of every kind in an effort to push away the hurtful words that others bombarded her with. Despite all of her knowledge and all of her fantastical stories, she never dreamed her own future would be full of adventure, danger, passion, and the possibility of unconditional love. As she lay unconscious after her first bloody encounter in the fae realm, her only chance of survival lay in the hands of a man scarred by his past, disfigured both emotionally and physically, and beyond the reach of any who had tried to help him.
Can two broken people, who carry the other half of each other’s souls, span the chasm between them and restore the innocence ripped from both their lives? Will they let the promise of healing love overcome the difference in age and experience, and the separation of species and realms? Or will they give in to the fear and doubt that would keep them from one another for eternity?

My Review
Oh.My.Gosh!! I think this book gave me several more grey hairs! But I absolutely loved every minute of it!  Jewel has had one heck of a time so far in this new supernatural world she’s been thrust into.  Poor thing is unconscious now, thanks to a raving lunatic, so she can’t even rely on the strength of the other girls that have found themselves in the same new world.  Then there’s Dalton… Tall, dark, handsome, furry, and full of uncontrollable rage. You know, your typical werewolf.  But there’s so much guilt built up inside him over his past he can’t accept the possibility of a mate as pure and vulnerable as Jewel.  (Stubborness: also a typical werewolf trait)  There is some serious pain and agony in this book, my heart breaks for these two over and over.  But there is so much beauty in the mate bond that it makes it bearable.  I’ve fallen in love with all these new characters just as I did all the Grey Wolves before them.  I can’t wait to see where the journey takes them!

My Review
Oh. My. Gosh!! What a thriller! Haley pulled at my heartstrings from the very beginning! She has so much love in her heart, even for people who really don’t deserve it. She lost her mother, who she was very close to, and is stuck with a drunken, angry dad and a naïve, spoiled little sister. She’s devoted her entire life to keeping things under control at home and not letting anything get to her. But living like that has weakened her spirit so much that she’s starting to lose all hope. Then comes Chris Charming and he is just too good to be true. No way can he be that rich, that good-looking, and actually interested in someone as messed up as Haley. He’s got the whole “bad boy” reputation that Haley does not want anything to do with. But he is smokin’ hot and very persistent so she’s in for a battle when it comes to staying away from him! The other characters are just as remarkable, although not necessarily in a good way. Every page is a thrill ride with a few warm & fuzzy moments amongst the pain and terror. I must warn you now; you won’t be putting this down until it’s completely finished. There is simply no point in this book where you can comfortably lay it down and forget about it until later. But it is totally worth staying up all night to read!

AUTHOR BIO
Krystal Wade is happily married to the love of her life (don’t gag) and raising three beautiful children in the gorgeous state of Virginia. They live just outside Washington, D.C., and every day she wakes up to find herself stuck in traffic trying to get there.
The horrid commute gives Krystal plenty of time to zone out and think about her characters in full, brilliant details (she’s a safe driver; don’t worry). Stories give her a way to forget about the sometimes smelly strangers sitting next to her on the fifty mile trek into town (she picks up hitchhikers every day. True story. Check outwww.slug-lines.com if you don’t believe us).
Krystal has been a part of organized hitchhiking for nearly fifteen years, but that’s just one small aspect of her oh-so-large life. When she’s not working, commuting, or chasing after her three children (four if you count the man), you can usually find Krystal outside talking to her chickens like they’re the cutest things in the world (they are), or training her amazing dogs how to herd said chickens (which they love), or curled up on the sofa with a good book (why can’t that be 100% of the time?).

Interview with the Fabulous Krystal Wade:

  1. If you could live in any "book world" where would it be & why?
Easy! The Hobbit. I’ve always wanted a Hobbit Hole, to live in the Shire and experience a simple life. They sing and dance and eat first and second breakfast and help each other out. And the war never reaches them!

  1. What would be your perfect writing space?
Somewhere dark, alone, quiet except for the music playing in my headphones, music that is wordless and emotional. So something totally opposite of how I actually write!

  1. What are your favorite movies/tv shows?
Right now I’m marathoning HOMELAND, which is really cool. Soon Once Upon a Time will start again, and The Vampire Diaries (which is just kind of MEH these days), and wait for it… wait for it… SLEEPY HOLLOW. I’m so excited about this one I can barely see straight. I love me some Ichabod Crane!

  1. If you were stuck on a island with one person & one book, who/what would they be?
This is really unfair? One person? My husband. You can go gag now, but dammit, he’s really good at catching animals and would be able to make fire and keep me warm and dry and happy and smiling. So there. But one book? Just one? Like ONLY one? Gah. The Hobbit, mainly because I love it and my husband loves it, so we could share.
Seriously, stop gagging!

  1. What is your favorite thing to do for fun?
HIKING with my family. :-)

  1. Are you prepared for a Zombie Apocalypse?
I would lose all respect for myself if I were prepared.

  1. What are you going to be for Halloween?
A mom carting her kids around, probably hobbling a bit because of the messed up back!
